City & Guilds Photography Level 2 - Specialist Photography & Photo Presentation

Module 208 - Principles of Location Photography

Statement of Intent Theme 1 - Autumn
The focus of my first theme is Autumn, the changing trees, plants and colours found at this time of year, as well as the wildlife we begin to see, should they show themselves.

Why this theme?
My main reason for choosing this theme is due to the fantastic opportunities I have already had to photograph this time of year, and with one of my main hobbies being walking my dogs I hope that I will be able to capture Autumn during country walks and visits to well known places for their fabulous Autumn colours at this time of year.

Equipment
My main piece of equipment will be my Nikon D90 DSLR and a 18mm-200mm lens and all images will be presented through my blog.

Techniques
I will be looking at the finer details of Autumn and the images I present I hope will capture the essence of this time of year.  The techniques I will be using will be depth of field, to focus on key objects but still showing the background colours of Autumn, a range of shutter speeds to show a number of effects that can be applied with relevance to the theme.  I will also be looking to incorporate the rule of thirds and lines to draw the eye.  With the great textures at this time of year as well with conkers and toadstools in season I hope to capture some of these as part of my presented images.

Light
I am happy for my main light source to come from natural daylight and in doing so I hope to capture some of the best times of day including dawn and dusk, as well as some of the fabulous light we see at this time of year on sunny crisp Autumn afternoons.

Safety
On location safety is always going to be an issue, especially when pushing the limits for a great shot.  Obviously I will asses the areas I look to visit but in the great outdoors the best safety precautions that can be taken is a good pair of walking boots as well as some waterproof gear.
